"Combinatorial optimization seeks efficient methods for finding an optimal solution in a finite collection of feasible solutions. For such problems, the number of feasible solutions is typically huge, thus considering all the solutions one after the other is highly impractical. In order to avoid a complete enumeration of the solutions, combinatorial optimization develops mathematical insight and algorithmic techniques for the problems it seeks to solve."
